UrbanKore Art Exposition II
The UrbanKore Art Exposition II is fast approaching, happening on June 20th from 9 AM to 3 PM, at the Beatrice Lee Community Center. This second installment of UrbanKore will continue to uplift and empower artistic voices from the urban core. Artist and Founder of UrbanKore, Harold Smith, says, ”While artists who have the opportunity to attend art institutions and receive exposure and career support through senior art shows and networking, self-taught artists from the urban core are often delegated to the shadows and left out of the conversations and opportunities that others receive.” Smith has also invited local Black curator Shaka Myrick to curate the event.
This time around, the UrbanKore will be held closer to downtown, making it more accessible as it is right off a bus line. Because of this, Smith is hoping for a larger turnout this year. There will be both new and returning artists to the event, including Adrianne Clayton, Angela and Theresa Mangler, Anthony “Trey” Loomis, Claude Harris III, Debbie Scott Williams, George Mayfield, Londyn Carter, Lynell Diggs, Nicole E. Diggs, Pierre Owens, Vivian Wilson Bluett, Warren “Stylez” Harvey, and Harold Smith.
