Studios Inc Celebrates the Opening of Survivin’ Under Pressure
JT Daniels’s opening of “Survivin’ Under Pressure” brought together over 200 guests to Studios Inc on Friday, February 7th. Artists, young adults, members of Kansas City’s skate community, and beyond all came together to celebrate the Artist in Residence.
Spanning both the front gallery and the Exhibition Hall, the artist installed wooden portrait cut-outs, mixed media collages, large paintings on canvas, photographs, and skate ramps punctuated by mural work. Before the opening, Daniels collaborated with videographer Ananda Messina and Pack of Strays Magazine. The group created a skate park set in the Exhibition Hall, which resulted in a series of dynamic photographs and a captivating film, which is displayed on multiple monitors throughout the show.
In Daniels’ work, you can see yourself reflected, not only in the diversity of his mediums, but also in his thoughtful portrayals of members of his community. The exhibition is a fantastic capstone to his three-year residency.
Daniels will host a skate demo from 6:30-7:30 pm on Friday, March 6th. Surviv’n Under Pressure closes on Saturday, March 7th.
