Reviewing “Beloved” at the Kiosk gallery

Grass Jolkowski, Spring intern at Studio Inc, visited Kiosk Gallery’s show Beloved, by Studios Inc’s artist in residence Kate Clements. Here are their thoughts:

When entering the gallery space the artwork is the main focus, with it being in the middle of the room near the corner. Because the walls are bare and painted a natural color, the piece really pops–mostly from the color from the flowers. The work invites you to look around and see multiple angles of the plants and flowers included.

One of the first things you'll notice that is really unique, is the smell of the artwork. Even with the mold it still manages to smell floral and fresh. The artwork is very time limited with all the flowers being in different points of decay. Each day the flowers decay more, making the artwork change day to day, so you'll never see the same thing twice. The mold slowly growing on the plants and flowers adds movement to the piece with how it drips downward. Even with the mold subtracting color from the art, it is still beautiful, almost looking like water running down the mass of flowers. With the piece being time sensitive, it makes me think of loss and grief, as the flowers in the case won't last forever, showing progression of decay as each day passes.

Kate Clement’s work Beloved is on view at Kiosk Gallery from February 20th to March 21st, 2026, open by appointment.
