The Emerging Voice

Jaede Bayala is a queer Puerto Rican artist in Kansas City. They are pursuing their BFA in Painting at the Kansas City Art Institute, where they have also participated in leadership positions through the Hispanic/Latinx Association and collaboration through group gallery shows. Bayala will also be the first artist in residence at The Waiting Room, an artist-run space founded by David Lieffring & SK Reed in the West Bottoms district of Kansas City, MO. Outside of the Art Institute, they have participated in internships with local galleries such as Habitat Contemporary and Studios Inc. They are currently the Assistant Gallery Manager at Studios Inc., where they also write for their own segment on the Studios Inc. blog.

The artist is focused on collaboration and community building and engages in opportunities that cater to this, such as their new publication, The Emerging Voice, a magazine dedicated to showcasing emerging artists in Kansas City through interviews and studio visits. With a wealth of underrepresented local talent, the publication aims to provide a platform where their voices can be seen, heard, and celebrated. Their first issue featured five studio visits with artists from the Kansas City Art Institute, each using a variety of mediums and themes within their work.
