Review: Haw Contemporary Upstairs Gallery
Assistant Gallery Manager Jaede Bayala and intern Svea Pierson recently visited the Haw Contemporary’s Upstairs Gallery to see the work on view from three of Studios Inc.’s current AIR, Armin Mühsam, Hong Chun Zhang, and Caleb Taylor.
The curation of work in Haw Contemporary’s upstairs gallery feels like a bouquet of bright colors, arranged in a playfully organized abstraction. The geometric nature of many of the pieces creates a sense of calm as you move through the space, your eyes tracing the lines that connect one artwork to the next. Intermittent bursts of energetic brushwork weave between the geometric compositions, adding moments of surprise that keep the viewer on their toes.
Svea Pierson writes:
The upstairs exhibition at Haw Contemporary felt like a place to breathe in unison. Individual expression pulling from similar energetic themes wrote a new chapter of viewer experience in each room. Works had ample space and an opportunity to leave their mark on the viewer.
