Studios Inc. Assistant Gallery Manager Jaede Bayala recently visited Carroll’s Show “Perfectly Consumed” at the Crossroads Hotel. will be on view at the Crossroads Hotel from May 30th, 2025, to July 19th, 2025.
At the Crossroads Hotel, Patty Carroll gives us a front-row seat to the worlds within her photographs, one that is cushioned in blue velvet. She is allowing us to be the star of the show, one that she has endured for so long. Her show, “Perfectly Consumed” includes work from the artist’s series titled Anonymous Women. This series speaks to women who are trapped in their domesticity, embellishing their homes until it leads them to madness. Carroll’s installation brings us into her piece “Tuft Love”, positioning her set around the piece, allowing us to be the subject. Large framed prints of her work hang on the wall climbing the stairs to the left of her installation, leading us to another installation this time bringing to life her piece titled “Sour Grapes”. Similarly to how she materialized “Tuft Love”, Carroll brings forth a side table draped in green velvet, with faux grapes and wine bottles piled together, accentuating the calamity of the piece —a woman draped over a rattan chair, consumed by her surroundings. This interactive way of encountering the work makes it more accessible to others. Carroll hopes that the individual responses to her work range from laughter to a more serious consideration of the confused and overwhelming state we often find ourselves in, whether in the world or our private lives. She says, “ I always try to infuse my message with humor and beauty. As the saying goes, ‘a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.’” Within the shadowy atmosphere of the Crossroads Hotel, Carroll’s work shines a light on her work, allowing the viewer to be a participant.
